Lizzie Finlay has always loved good stories, children’s books, and drawing; and after making storybooks in primary school, she dreamt of being an illustrator. She is inspired by imaginative stories, bright colours, quirky characters (especially pirates and beady-eyed wolves) and their adventures. She loves expressive line drawings and is a huge fan of the work of Andy Warhol, David Hockney, Quentin Blake and David McKee.

Since graduating from the University of Plymouth, Exeter, in 1999, Lizzie has loved illustrating picture books, young fiction including the hugely successful Pony Mad Princess series for Usborne, and some older fiction book covers.

More recently she has written and illustrated her first picture book Dandylion the story of a chaotic little lion, and has just completed Little Croc’s Purse which will be published early next year.

Lizzie has a (messy) studio in Manchester city centre, where the kettle and the radio are always on. She loves the daily arrival of the post. Other favourite things are: chocolate cake (especially for breakfast), reading, going to the theatre, stickers, avocados, and a good cup of tea.

She is delighted to be working as a children’s book illustrator and considers it to be the best job in the world!
