Debra McFarlane was born in1974 in Wimbledon, and graduated from Kingston University in 1997, having studied BA Illustration. She has since worked freelance, and has illustrated six books for The Folio Society to date, including most recently Peter Pan and Wendy (2006), and The Pink Fairy Book (2007). She has also been a regular contributor to the Radio Times magazine, working in watercolour for them. Debra’s main medium is etching and aquatint, and as in painting, each ink is applied to the plate by hand and one impression is taken for each print, which takes several hours.

Debra has recently worked on the new ‘Storyworld’ project for Templar Publishing, due to be published in July 2009. This is a set of ‘story cards’, illustrated by many different artists, which aim to help children make up their own stories.

Debra lives in South West London and works from a studio in an old wharf by the Thames in Hammersmith. She enjoys drawing and writing as she travels around, and also hopes to write her own books.
