Alice Melvin
Born in 1982 Alice Melvin grew up in the seaside town of Saltburn in the north east of England. She studied Illustration at Edinburgh College of Art graduating with first class honors in June 2004, and receiving the Andrew Grant Bequest for outstanding work in illustration.
Her first book An A to Z Treasure Hunt was published by Tate in 2007 and was short listed for the Book Trust’s Big Picture Best New Illustrators Award. An A to Z Treasure Hunt was also the only entry for Great Britain to be selected for the prestigious Bologna Children’s Book Fair Illustrator’s Exhibition in 2008. Following the publication of her book Alice worked with the Tate on an accompanying range of children’s products. Alice’s second children’s book Counting Birds also published by Tate will be released in Autumn 2009.
Alice has exhibited her limited edition screenprints in various group exhibitions and her hand printed artists’ books are held in private and public collections including: British Library, Tate, and Centre for Fine Print Research at University West of England Bristol.
